Having grown up near the Amish people I may have taken things for granted...like driving behind a buggy, or wagon, or seeing the children at play outside their one room schoolhouse. But having Sunghyun along, we were able to see them differently--he was like a kid in a candy store. Nothing like that in Korea, Birmingham, or Dallas. Now Natalie says (when near a buggy), "Let's take a picture, but just from behind" (we told him they do not appreciate when people take their pictures--so he could just snap a pic from behind--without showing someone's face). And as a side note, this past Saturday it was our neighborhood garage sale. At one point we had three buggies tied up to light posts! I LOVE being near the Amish people again. Their serenity and goodness is an example to those of us caught up in the whirlwind of day to day chaos. Read the book Plain and Simple by Sue Bender. Great story about her experience living with an Amish family for a summer.
