Primary Sacrament Presentation 2010

Each year the children get a chance to share their testimonies and songs during our Sacrament Meeting. It is a big deal for them to sit up in front of the congregation, singing songs and speaking. Amazingly, Everett, who CAN be timid, did great...his part was "The first article of faith states..." Now if anyone understood him other than his family, that is another story. But he said it and with gusto. Natalie wrote her own part about a time when she followed the promptings of the Holy Ghost. This is what she shared,
“The Holy Ghost teaches me to serve. I was guided by the Holy Ghost one Sunday afternoon. My dad was upstairs telling my mom all about Church since she stayed home with baby Elliott. Everett was upstairs in his room. I was downstairs all alone. The Holy Ghost put an idea in my mind to make lunch for my family. I listened and set the table, and on the plates I placed a yogurt, string cheese, carrots, crackers, and tomatoes. I filled the cups with water. Then I wrote my family a note inviting them to lunch and slid it under their door. They were so happy especially when I told them that I followed the Holy Ghost who guided me to serve them this way. I am excited to have the Gift of the Holy Ghost when I am baptized.”
Two people came up to me and commmented on how touched they were during her talk. That made her feel good too that the words she shared helped someone to feel good. Everett, on the other hand, made people laugh, During one of the songs (Everett was in the front row and would come up to the low wall during the songs--therefore, more in the view of the congregation) Everett was making had motions--raising one finger for "first" and two fingers for "second" and so on. And supposedly he was clowning around looking like he was choking himself.
They were angels today. And they looked lovely in their white. I had to do a mini photo shoot to remember this dayand how they looked.
As a side note about Everett: The other night he was tired and during the bathing routine he began to hit himself. I asked why he was doing that and he said, along these lines, "I want to be dead like Aunt Sheila" After talking with him I realized it was because he missed her and wanted to be with her again. I feel sorry for the little guy. We all miss Sheila. This is how he expressed his longings. Natalie similarly longed for Mommom (maternal great grandmother) at this age, dreaming about her and sharing how much she missed her.

Cousins

The kids are so blessed to be near cousins and now to have cousins just down the street. Emily has been such a blessing. She is such a helper. The kids adore her. She did their hair one night (Emily is the first to curl Natalie's hair). Natalie loved it, squealing in delight. Everett got the spikes.

Applesauce 2010

Everett was my applesauce helper this year. He is always willing to help (espceially when it is just the two of us, Elliott being asleep). I love how he sports his Ikea apron.

Brett's Clips

So Brett sent the kids a care package after she got home. They LOVE getting packages but this one was extra special to them. She took the time to write them each a letter (and Dan and I). She made each of them a tin to hold trinkets. She also made Natalie barrettes. Natalie said it is good Brett made them because "Brett" is like "barrette". Go figure. Natalie LOVED the clips and has since worn one every day. This picture is of the 4 Natalie and I made based on the ones Brett sent. We did pretty good. And even last night I cranked out 24 more of them. Guess what people are getting for Christmas? Natalie will make some for all the girls in her class. And for the boys...

Cute Elliott.

Almost 10 months. He is so cute to me. I guess all parents think their kids are cute. He is such a good mix of Natalie and Everett although he favors her a bit more.

Washington DC Temple

It had been some time since we went to the temple. It was so nice going and the children did well--thankfully. We finished with a visit to Cracker Barrel. I used to greatly dislike that place, saying that if I wanted home cooked food, I'd cook it myself. But...I have changed my ways since kids.

Elliott is Standing!

He had been pulling himself to a stand for awhile now but I finally took a picture of it at almost 10 months. So cute.

Uncle Eugene visits with Jim

Cowbirds swarming the yard.

Don't you LOVE this picture!?
My great Uncle Eugene came to visit with Jim. It was wonderful spending the day with them.

Water Water Everywhere!

So for the first 20 months of living here we were used to some rain...but never like this. We had over 8 inches in a day (or something like that according to my weather savvy sister-in-law). The basin FILLED UP, and went up OVER the drain. It was a bit scary, wondering IF the view was going to cost us this year. It did not and our fears were abated. That was a heavy rainstorm and we were fine. I did have to work on our neighbor's place while they were out of town. Part of the piping on their sump pump broke and the water was spilling out all around their foundation. I used a hoe to dig a ditch leading the water away from their home. It was pretty wild, a lot of french drains were "exploding" into mini-geysers.

Yearly Doctor Visit

The kids are right on target. Moving along those curved lines of the growth chart. We are glad they are well. Poor Everett and 5 shots...
