We Love CICADAS!

What a wonderful day at the park. It was molting time for the "7 year locusts"--not really locusts though, CICADAS! Hearing them all summer has been a wonderful treat. We entered the park, greeted by a cicada, that seemed to not have much energy. Natalie thought he was not alive because she could not see him breathing. We gently touched his wings and he walked slowly away from our finger tips. They have just been molting this past week or so and there are oodles of "smoochies" (as Natalie calls them) all over the trees. Interestingly there many on conifers and NONE on other trees. Wonder why? Anyway, I remember, as a child, picking the "smoochies" off the trees and sticking them on other people. Fun. Well today, my very brave kids did the same thing. (I actually heard from my sis-in-law that their cousin ate one the other day--she'll probably serve a mission in a part of the world where they do eat them--well the actual cicada, not just the molten shell). Enjoy the pics.

I couldn't agree with you more on Haley going somewhere exotic on a mission and eating weird foods! She will put anything that she shouldn't put in her mouth in it. She loves the "smoochies" and wants to put them on her clothes too. Then of course she tries to eat them. Gross me out!
